The Ledges St. George

It is difficult to beat the weather & scenery of St. George golf courses. I don’t know this course well enough to give any tips, but I’d love to tell you about it! The Ledges Golf Course is one of our favorites! Snow Canyon is visible from just about every hole, and the course plays amazing! Quick greens, nice pro shop, great warm up facilities. Make sure this is on your list!

Golfing at Mount Ogden Golf Course

One of my earliest memories is golfing at Mt. Ogden in the Fall. Which if you’ve ever golfed there, you can understand why that is memorable. This course is located against the mountains in the middle of Ogden. It is typically not a problem to get on,  because many will not play it because of its difficulty. Despite this, it is without a doubt my favorite local course to play! See below for our top tips to survive!

TIPS FROM JONAH

Everything breaks away from the mountain. Seriously… and severely! I promise. Even when it looks like the opposite. Trust me, and play the break.
=
Hole 6 is a par 5. I would highly discourage hitting driver on this hole, even if you are feeling confident. The reason is, even if you pure one up the middle, the ball will be kicked out of bounds by the sloped fairway. I personally hit 5 wood, or hybrid to set up for a nice approach shot.
=
Hole 15 is a severe dog leg left and is completely blind from the tee box. If you’ve never played this hole, it is very difficult to judge the distance to land safe and cut the corner. You will see a short telephone pole sticking out of the trees on the left side. This is your target. 6 iron is my club of choice, swing easy and you should land just short of the green side bunker.

TIPS FROM JULI

Go with someone who is familiar with the course, and play best ball.

Practice putting because these greens will eat your lunch.

Tips for Valley View Golf Course

I played high school golf for two years, and our home course was Valley View.  This is for sure one of my top choices for a round, and is located in East Layton. Its beautiful scenery coupled with its difficulty in elevation change is a Sunday delight. Here are three tips to shoot lower scores.

Number 1 is a somewhat intimidating downhill dog leg left. You can easily be psyched out by the water on the left rough. Although it may be scary, as long as you can carry a decent drive, you can aim directly over the water, and if you do carry, you will be about 50 yards out for your approach shot. Hit with confidence.

Number 5 is a long par 4, with an elevated green. My biggest tip here would be to aim for the left side of the fairway. It is severely sloped, and any shot you hit (especially with a fade) is going to kick hard right after it hits the fairway. I can’t tell you the amount of times I have hit one straight up the middle, and ended up in the right rough, or even in the water hazard.

Hole 15 is a par 4 with a massive water hazard in the middle of the fairway. It is deceiving, and many peoples first instinct is to grab driver on this hole. DO NOT DO THIS. Although you may need to hit directly over the water for your approach shot, it is far to easy to hit one in the hazard. My club of choice is a 4 hybrid, or a 5 iron. Lay up and you’ll be in good shape.

Valley View has an excellent practice area with two putting greens, a large space for practicing chip shots as well as a sand trap, and a long driving range. As a new golfer that needs a lot of practice, this is a great feature for me!

TIPS FROM BRETT

=
Do your best to stay in the fairway and out of the trees. If that means hitting the ball shorter and avoiding the treacherous rough, that is my recommendation.

Tips for The Barn Golf Course

This course is the opposite of Mt. Ogden in the sense that I play here when I want to feel good about my game. It is a very forgiving course, and you can typically save your shots even from the deep rough. This course is in North Ogden, and gives you beautiful views of the mountains. This Barn Golf Course is currently where I have shot my personal best round (68). Here are some tips for The Barn:

  1. First off are the greens. On pretty much every hole you can be more aggressive here than other places. They will typically roll a little slower on the green, and you can play the breaks less than they look. Before starting your round, make sure to spend some time on the putting green, because they are much different than the surrounding courses.
  2. Hole 4 is a par 3 that seems to be somewhat level. It’s a lie, it is uphill. Make sure you club up from whatever you would hit at that distance. You will be happy you did so.
  3. Hole 13 is a dog leg right, and it is wide open in the rough to cut the corner. This is a hole you can be as aggressive as you want to be. It’s also one of the most beautiful holes on this course, because the tee box directly faces Ben Lomond peak. Aim right and you will be surprised how great your approach shot will be!

This is a flat and fun golf course. I love this course for confidence boosting, as it’s a lot more open with fewer obstacles than most of the local golf courses.  Also, I love that we have helped clients to buy/sell several of the lovely properties that line the golf course.

This is also a really friendly golf course. We have reserved multiple tee times at one, since with enough notice they are usually happy to accommodate larger groups.

Golfing at Wolf Creek, Eden, UT

This course has been one of my favorites since I first played it as a little kid. Back in those days, it was actually a private country club. But lucky for us, it is a public course! It’s 360 degree views of the mountains are spectacular, and you will not be disappointed with the quality of the golf course. See below for my top tips for playing it!

TIPS FROM JONAH

=
The 2nd hole is a long par 5 that is straight for the most part. It’s downhill and narrow in the fairway. The tip is aim at the left side of the fairway (especially if you fade) because this fairway has a tendency to kick your ball to the right after landing. If you account for this, and hit one square you should have an opportunity to reach the hole in 2.
=
Hole 10 is a straight par 4 that goes downhill. With hazards on the left side of the fairway, and trees on the right side, this is one you must hit accurately. The tip on this one is keep the driver in the bag (if you hit the ball long). There is a river that runs directly in front of the green, and if you really crank one, you’re going to end up in the hazard. Best to hit a 3 or a 5 wood and put yourself to 100 – 150 yards out.
=
Hole 13 is the hardest hole on the course in my opinion. It is a slightly uphill par 3, and has a relatively narrow green. Best play here is going to be a slight draw into the green and let it roll up. The pro at Wolf Creek says this is the most bogey’d hole on the course. Club up one to account for the uphill, and swing easy!

TIPS FROM JULI

=
The food is delicious! So save some room for lunch and take a lesson from their pro!

TIPS FROM BRETT

=
Play more conservative, and keep yourself in the fairway. It is not very forgiving with the slope of the course.
